When you talk of Pakistan Cricket, names like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, Waqar, Inzamam, Yousaf, Rawalpindi Express and many more come to mind in a blink of an eye. They were good....oh come on. They were the best and their records prove it. Such are the golden memories of glorious past of Pak Cricket Team. I hope we will have future stars who will shine and will make us proud again.
Consistency is a word if it is used in true sense, then the Austrailian team from 1999-2007 is the best example. Gilly, Punter, Lee, McGrath, Martin & Warne were the gems of that elite squad. Every one was so perfect and so professionally responsible that success followed them. Every one complemented each other so effectively that failure met them once in a blue moon. That is what u can call professionalism, dedication and consistency. Bravo! Aussies Bravo!. You deserved every bit of glory.
People say there are two unpredictable teams i-e: Pakistan & West Indies. Both have glorious past and list of talented magicians. To some effect the label of unpredictability is very true for both of them. On their day they will humiliate their opponents with exceptional & unbelievable ways. On the contrary, they will disappoint their fans as if they are minnows and no nothing about game. Such is the dilemma of both of these superpowers of Cricket.
Now talking particularly of Pakistan. People say they are inconsistent. I strongly disagree and i have my reason for that. Consistency means to repeat something again and again. That is what Pak team are doing from quite some time. Isn't Pak batting failing "continuously" . The team does not have Yousaf and Inzamam any more. So failure of middle order is not a big surprise. Pakistan have been relying heavily on Younis Khan and Misbah. Is Younis a n ideal one day bastsman? I don't know why people believe so much in him. No class, no style, no big record, no performance of some notable value. He is so lucky to play so many matches because Inzmam & Yousaf were there to take responsibility of scoring. Younis just performs occasionally and that to for staying in team. He has a good record in Test Matches with out any doubt. But is that record consistent against teams like South Africa & Austrailia? Does he equally perform good in conditions of SA & Aus. The answer is a big big "NO". Here is a proof of what i wanted to say. But overall you can say he is an avg test batsman but by no any means a replica of classy Yousaf or solid Inzi.
Coming over to shorter format of Cricket, he was flop of flops & his record / retirement prove that.
I dont think so this record is even worth showing or mentioning. Remember the maiden over he played in the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup against arch rivals India? Wasn't that the turning point of match? To add to woes of PAk fans, he contributed in the run out of Imran Nazir who was hammering Indian bowlers to all parts of ground. But he is so lucky that under his captaincy Pak won T20 WORLD CUP. He is so lucky that Gul,Akmal,Ajmal,Amir & Afridi gave their best and lead Pak to victory. His captaincy??? Oh come on. Remember the over he gave to Fawad Alam almost cost us the semi against SA. Thanks heaven he himself left this format. Otherwise the list of laurels would have been even bigger.
Now to the fifty over format. people, analysers and fans say that he is the back bone Pak batting . I think hard and hard and hard to find a clue why people say this. Has he won a world cup, trophy, tounament or even a match......? Atleast i cant remember. Have a glance at his ODI career:
Now please have a look at the figures in red color. The averages, the strike rate, the no. of hundreds against Big teams just show what Younis really is. Are these figures justify "BACK BONE" tag. He is lucky again because he has a good record against India. But is this record sufficient to keep his place in team?
Overall ODI Record:
Just look at no of hundreds (out of which 3 are against India & 1 gainst Hong Kong), how a back bone can be so strong that he crumbles for average and strike rate against better bowlers. How you get out on duck 21 times. How you drop Sachin Tendulkar's catch in world Cup Semi. How you miss a dolly offered by Kiwi batsman Grant Elliot of the bowling of Muhammad Amir to deny you team from winning semi final of champions trophy's Semifial. Isn't this consistency in failing to perform, contributing to the loss of team. Well done sir Younis well done! You will keep on "performing" and selectors will keep on selecting you.
(CONSITENCY again....)
Now people might be thinking that i am big enemy of Younis. No! I m not.... I repeat I am not!
But when you see people talking in talk shows that he has done this. done that .....then why these records don't prove them true. Why the stats don't tally their words. The point which i want to convey is when Legends like Tendulkar,Ponting & Hussey can leave why ant oldies like Misbah and Younis. Will they be available for 2015 world cup? Are they performing enough to be in the team.? Is there no back up to replace these two "Back Bones". The fact is Younis and Misbah have created a big void space in the middle order which will take some time to recover. Selectors hould chance to young talent....... before its too late!!!!
